Erfurt is the capital of Thuringia and is located pretty much in the center of Germany. There is a small airport, but… there is still the train, but…
If you are traveling from far away, it is best to take the train. The ICE trains from Munich and Frankfurt to Berlin intersect here. If you are traveling from even further away, you could fly to Frankfurt, Berlin, Munich, or Leipzig and then travel by train directly to Erfurt from there.
